Starting in the middle of the 19th century, Davos in the Canton of Grisons started becoming internationally famous as a climatic health resort and as winter sports destination. Davos also developed into a city for international meetings and conferences, first and foremost the annual World Economic Forum (WEF), as well as a large number of other conferences and events.
